Associate Video Producer / Editor

Full Time (40hrs per week)

About us:


Shotover Media is a video production company based in Queenstown, New Zealand. We're a team of innovative, passionate and creative filmmakers with experience managing all aspects of the production process. Our drive is to create original, engaging and inspiring videos for online, digital and branded content.


We're looking for a creative, passionate and motivated individual to join our small but rapidly expanding team of 4. We operate two businesses - Shotover Media and Shotover Wedding Films offering high quality, professional video content. The successful applicant will be required to work on projects for each company.



This person will join us as an Associate Producer and Editor but there will be lots of room to grow and develop. Therefore we are looking for someone with a very pro active, hard working attitude and a strong desire to learn within the industry, grow with our company and become a long term team member. 


You will work alongside our other Associate Producer and our Production Assistant, reporting to the 2 company directors.  You will be expected to work across both companies, managing some smaller projects independently from start to finish including all aspects of pre-production, production and post production. For larger shoots,  you will be expected to assist and work under direction from the senior directors.


This role will require long working hours, sometimes on weekends, and the ability to carry heavy loads. While some training will be provided, the successful applicant will be expected to champion their own development and training. 


There will be a 3 month fully paid probationary period to establish the right candidate for this role. This role will be split between being office based at our production house in Queenstown and out in the field wherever required. This is a fast paced and professional environment where an ability to meet deadlines is a must.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Producing smaller commercial projects from start to finish: Managing pre production, shooting, executing a brief, delivering a finished edit and client management & communication

  • Producing wedding video projects: meetings & communications with client, planning, shooting and editing. 

  • Assist with larger scale commercial projects, working alongside the other team members and under the direction of the senior directors.

  • Production responsibilities: Shooting on RED, Sony FS7, Sony FS5 and other smaller mirrorless cameras. Manage audio, grip and lighting gear. Execute a brief and directing talent (models, actors, presenters etc.)

  • Operate a UAV and undergo a 141 certification (training provided)

  • Editing and colour grading with FCPX

  • Assist with the day to day running of the business, including attending meetings, answering emails and phone calls, managing our web and social media presence, general administrative duties.



Successful applicants must have:

  • NZ Residency or be able to legally work / commit to at least 12 months full time employment.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends where required.

  • Reside in the Queenstown region or be prepared to relocate to the Queenstown region. 

  • A full NZ driving license and access to their own transport.

  • Fluent spoken English and be comfortable holding conversations with a diverse range of clients.


Required Experience:

  • Video production experience (operating DSLR/mirrorless/film cameras)

  • Good level of experience working with current professional editing software such as Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, AVID, Sony Vegas

  • Good level of understanding for basic film practices

  • Good knowledge of industry equipment


Preferred but not required experience:

  • Experience shooting with high end cameras (RED, Sony FS7/FS5 or equivalent)

  • Experience shooting video for commercial projects and experience with client management

  • Experience shooting and/or editing weddings 

  • Experience operating a UAV and/or a pilot’s certificate (Part 141)

  • Good understanding of Final Cut Pro X

  • Experience colour grading

  • Basic understanding of other photo and video editing software such as the Adobe Suite
